Second grade is an exciting year and one of tremendous growth for the students. The second grade curriculum includes the following subject areas:
Religion
During this year, the children will be invited to receive two sacraments of the church, Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist. The program will help to prepare for these sacraments. You are encouraged to review your child's book. It will help you to engage your child in what he or she is learning.
Language Arts
The children will receive instruction in Grammar, Reading, Phonics, Spelling, Creative Writing and Penmanship. They will also begin cursive writing this year!
The math program includes addition and subtraction of 3-Digit numbers, multiplication and division readiness, geometry, fractions, time, money and measurement. Thinking, reasoning and problem solving are emphasized throughout the program.
Science and Social Studies
are taught but not graded at this level.
