What is Scrip?
The Scrip Program is a fundraiser for SJY by offering Gift Cards from local and national retailers & restaurants. The proceeds are enjoyed by the Church, the School, and help reduce parents' tuition bills for St. Joseph School, York Catholic High School, or the Parish Religious Education Program. Scrip is a program that encourages people to purchase gift certificates from participating merchants at face value. Each merchant provides a "Rebate Percentage" (which varies from merchant-to-merchant, from 2% to 25% of the value). 45% goes to the family's account, 45% of the percentage goes to the school, and 10% goes toward administrative costs.
Everyone needs food and gas, so why not buy them with Scrip Cards and help out your church and school or reduce your child's tuition?
How Scrip Generates Revenue for You
Scrip is gift cards that are purchased from grocery stores, department stores, and other retailers. Because the scrip is purchased with cash up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial discount. We buy the scrip from Great Lakes Scrip Center at a discount, and re-sell the certificates to families like yours for full face value. The discount ‑ from two to 15 percent or more – is how you get free tuition money.
When is Scrip Sold?
Scrip is sold on Tuesdays and Fridays in Church Conference Room from 7:30 to 10:00 as well. Sales of Giant or Weis gift cards may be made in the Church Office during regular business hours of 8:00am to 4:00pm.
