Unsportsmanlike behavior exhibited by an athlete, player family member or coach is not allowed at games and practices.  Bullying behavior is also unacceptable at games and practices.  If unsportsmanlike like or bullying behavior is exhibited by a player, family member or coach, the Athletic Association will take immediate steps to stop the behavior.  If said behavior does not cease, the case will be evaluated by the AA Board and immediate steps will be taken to ensure to alleviate the issue.

Code of Conduct

Please refer to the Code of Conduct, signed by all students participating in sports offered by the Athletic Association and a parent wishing their child to participate in sports offered by the Athletic Association.  No athlete will be allowed to participate in any activity unless the Athletic Association has a properly signed Code of Conduct for the current year on record.

Bullying

For questions about bullying behavior, pleaser refer to the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, used by St. Joseph School, York.  This is the bullying guidelines that the Athletic Association will follow in cases of bullying behavior.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact an Athletic Association Board member or attend a monthly Athletic Association meeting.  Continued unsportsmanlike or bullying behavior will not be accepted by the Athletic Association under any circumstances.  Below is a video for all coaches to view prior to the start of the season in regards to the OBPP.  Coaches are also welcome to read the transcript of this video.

Grievances

The appropriate forum for discussion of general matters relating to Athletic Association policies or procedures are the monthly meetings. These matters might include equipment, fundraising, uniforms, fields, teams, etc.

In those instances when a problem arises regarding a specific coach or person, the following grievance procedure must be followed:

1) Parents should bring the matter to the attention of the head coach or person after a time period of 24 hours has elapsed. This is considered to be cool off period to rethink what actions you want to talk about. After 24 hours, parents should make arrangements to speak with the coach or person privately at an appropriate time and place without the presence of children.  You must have a personal discussion over the matter.  Please do not have a dialog over email.

2) If the matter cannot be resolved, parents should complete the Grievance Form and submit it to any Board member of the athletic association. A meeting will then be arranged between the parents, coach, an Olweus Committee member, the AA Board and if necessary, Fr. Louis and/or Pat Byrnes. After the issues have been discussed, a vote will be taken to reach a decision. All Grievances that require a meeting will be brought to the attention of Fr. Louis and Pat Byrnes.
