Little Rock Scripture Study

The parish has an on-going program of Little Rock Scripture study. There We have several groups, each about 8 to 12 people, studying different books of the Bible during the fall or winter/spring at the church or in parishioner’s homes. Any of the studies are an excellent entry point for new participants, adults of all ages, and all levels of Bible experience. The Little Rock materials provide the scripture text, written and audio or video commentaries, and questions to facilitate discussion. Meetings run about 75 minutes, and allow for wonderful prayer and engagement. The groups are vey flexible and even if you can only attend most but not all sessions, you will be most welcome.

Each study series tends to run about 12 to 14 weeks. The groups break over the Christmas holidays and resume in late January, usually meeting until early June, when we break for the summer. While the actual process of the meeting will vary by each group, the general flow is usually as follows: There are several minutes of socializing as we gather. Some groups may have coffee and refreshments. When the meeting begins we open with prayer, asking for the Holy Spirit to open our minds and hearts and to guide us as we read and discuss the word of the Lord. We will listen to the audio/video commentary provided by Little Rock. Then we will get into a discussion of the questions in the participant materials. The materials are set up that you read and prepare a little bit each day between meetings. Some of us just choose to read and prepare all in one session. Or, if you can’t some weeks, no matter, as the group discussion will certainly still include you. It is a never ending wonder what we can learn from the Bible and from each other as we discuss it. The discussions are truly Spirit guided.
