Here at St. Joseph Church, there are many different music opportunities to share your talent or love of singing. We welcome any level of vocal ability, whether you are professionally trained or a "closet singer". We are always looking for instrumentalists to join our groups, especially during the seasons of Christmas and Easter. We are not here to perform, but to serve God and the congregation through music! Please consider joining one of the groups below that might fit your schedule, and sharing in this wonderful and rewarding ministry!
Cantors help lead the congregation in song during different functions throughout the church year. They will often sing as a soloist and interact with the congregation through their singing, to help engage the congregation to participate. Besides masses, cantors that have availability during the week are also needed to cantor Funerals. We are looking for confident singers who are personable and are available on Saturday evenings and Sundays for the 7am and 8:30am Masses, or for weekday funerals. Accompanists are vital to our worship experience, there is a uniqueness to a singer or group that sings alone, but there is an awesome power behind a voice that has music to match it. Skilled accompanists must be able to confidently lead the congregation and follow the cantor. It is very important that this person is personable and has a good working relationship, as they will accompany a variety of singers. If you are interested, or would like more information, contact:

Young at Heart Resurrection Choir
The St. Joseph Young at Heart Resurrection Choir was founded some 30 years ago, when the parish church was located on East Princess Street in York. The members felt drawn to providing music and compassion for families suffering the loss of one of their members. Thus, the choir attended any funeral Mass or service held in the church, where they provided music and sympathy to the family. On many occasions, the number of choir participants exceed the number of family and friends. The members felt that their attendance and music selections showed their love and compassion for the family of the deceased. The choir’s presence at these times shows the importance of caring for fellow parishioners and means a lot to the families, according to their responses. New members are always welcomed and appreciated. There is a strong family feeling among the men and women who join together in this mission. We are always delighted when God sends new voices our way. There are no evening rehearsals to attend, simply the joy of singing! If you are available during the day to join us in our ministry to serve those who have become one with Christ, contact:

Voices of Praise
Voices of Praise is the traditional choir, which often sings at the 8:30am service. Although the music is traditional, in the sense that we sing four part harmony, the music can vary from hymns, acapella, Latin, Jazz, Blues, Gospel and more styles. We strive to have a diversity of music to help prepare and enhance the liturgical experience at St. Joseph Church. Members are from high school age to those seasoned singers among us. Whether you are looking for a better outlet to sing with a group or a fun weekly experience to form great friendships, we rehearse on Thursday nights at 6:30pm. If you are interested, contact:

Psalm 68, v3-4
The God of Sinai and of the Sanctuary
But let the righteous be joyful
let them exult before God;
let them be jubilant with joy!
Sing to God, sing praise to his name;
lift up a song to him who rides upon the clouds;
his name is the Lord, exult before him!
Our goal is to help lead our parishioners to enter into prayer. Our purpose is not performing music, but leading a group prayer in song. The members of our group come with a variety of knowledge, experience, and from a diverse background. We enjoy praising God and building community. We consist of piano, guitars, bass guitar, drums, percussion, a variety of wind instruments, and VOICES! We cover a variety of genres including Praise and Worship, Contemporary, Folk, and Gospel. Most important is that any music is well known by the congregation and is easy to pick up, sing, and Praise God! Praying Twice sings at the 10:30 mass time. If you would like more information, or to join the group, please contact:

The name of the group is based not only on our Mass time, but the Second Letter to the Corinthians (2 Corinthians 12: 11–18) written by the apostle Paul in which he wrote about Selfless Concern for the Church.
“I will most gladly spend and he utterly spent for your sakes. If I love you more, am I to be loved less?”
The 12:15 members find strength and focus in this passage. For the group, Paul’s words convey the following meaning: We are not in this for our own Glory, but for the love of Church, and that through us, they might know God’s love and blessing…even if at some point it may seem challenging, still we will persist. The group primarily sings & plays Contemporary Christian music from today’s artists (such as Matt Maher, Sarah Hart, Tom Booth, Chris Tomlin, HIllsong, Curtis Stephan, Audrey Assad, Josh Blaksley, and Steve Angrisano, to name a few), as well as other songs from musicians and singers produced in recent decades. The songs focus on praise, worship, faith, encouragement, reconciliation, renewal, and prayer. We are made up of vocalists and instruments, such as piano, guitar, bass, drums, string, and wind instruments. If you would like to join Corinthians 12:15 or for more information, please contact:

The Bell Choir performs during special occasions throughout the church year, including Christmas and Easter. Ability to read music is not a requirement, but it is appreciated. The Bell Choir will often play with the Voices of Praise Choir, with a soloist and organ, or with the entire Music Ministry during large parish engagements. Rehearsals are not regular, but are set-up during the seasons that we are actively playing during masses, like Easter and Christmas.
