Who Can Receive the Sacrament?
Children should be registered and attending Parish Sacramental Preparation Programs for at least two years before receiving this sacrament.
Adults are received into this sacrament through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). Please contact the RCIA Director or one of the parish priests for information. Everyone is welcome to attend Mass. However only Catholics in good standing and not conscious of grave sin and who have fasted for one hour may receive Holy Communion.

First Communion Retreat
First Holy Communion retreat days for the children will be April 10 and 11, 2018. Candidates come for one of these days. After checking with the schools, we assign children to one of these days. Act 175 allows public school children to be absent from class for religious purposes for a total of 30 hours per year. All that is necessary is that the parent send a note to the school.
The children are to bring a non-perishable bag lunch, no lunch boxes or reusable containers, please. We will supply a drink and a snack for a morning break and a drink for lunch. Please let us know if your child has any allergies or special health concerns or needs. The day starts at 8:30 a.m. and is over at 2:30 p.m. St. Joseph School children report to their classroom at the usual morning time. Uniforms need not be worn on this day. Public school children report to the Church at 8:30 a.m. and may be picked up at the daily Mass Chapel at 2:30 p.m. SJS children will return to school and be dismissed from there.
Picture Day for the children is TBD. Please make sure that you arrive in the main church at the scheduled time. When you arrive, children should be dressed in their Communion attire and ready to have their pictures taken. Even if you do not plan to purchase any pictures, please bring your child for the Group Photo. It will be taken first and then you and your child may leave.
Please have your children arrive to the church on time. We will do our best to keep to the schedule. Please be patient with the volunteers, they will do their best to see that things run smoothly.
Please note: PARENTS WILL STAY IN THE CHURCH FOR THE PICTURE TAKING PROCESS. No parents will be allowed in the Chapel and no photographing is allowed in the Chapel except by the photographer. If you have a special Bible or rosary you want your child to hold in the individual picture, please bring it when you arrive and it will be placed in a basket and brought to the Chapel for the individual picture.
Order forms and envelopes will be coming from the photographer. Payment is due on picture day and must be submitted in the special envelope that will be provided.
