Mrs. Nestlerode, the fifth and sixth grade math
teacher, grew up in Lancaster County and went to high school
and college there. She frequently visits her parents, who
still live there. She decided she wanted to be a teacher
after having Miss Eckman in second grade. “I loved Miss
Eckman because she loved us.
She used to take a pillow to the top of the sliding
board at recess and sit on it to come down the slide.”
After graduating from college, she taught school for two
years in the Williams Valley School District, then part of a
year in Dallastown when she and her husband, Larry, moved to
York. The next few years she stayed home while raising their
four children. When
the youngest was in first grade, she decided to go back to
teaching. She substituted that year here at St. Joseph’s,
took a full time position the following year, and has been a
teacher in the sixth grade ever since.
Mrs. Nestlerode loves reading, cooking, and gardening
when she has free time. She especially likes to spend time
with her friends and family, including her three
grandchildren. She and her husband also enjoy spending an
occasional weekend in the mountains at their cabin.
